How Clean is Your Favorite Restaurant?

Posted by ericchristensen under: Life in Orange County .

Many of us read the front page article on restaurant violations in the Orange County Register on Sunday, February 24.  It’s interesting to see that the casual attitude of the County Board of Supersvisors has changed from thinking the letter grading used by surrounding counties as a “nanny state” to now considering an enhanced public notification of the Health Agencies’ findings after inspections.  With more than 9,600 food facilities in OC and only 2,241 receiving Awards of Excellence in 2007, I think it’s about time the Board reconsidered their opinion.

The County’s website isn’t the easiest to navigate in finding out about the restaurant you may be going to tonight.  I couldn’t find a list with their major/minor violations.  You can http://foodinspections.ocgov.com/foodinspections/ and type in your favorite restaurant to see what they say, or you can go the the OC Register’s site.  The county also has a list of the the restaurants closed for safety violations in the past 60 days.  Sad to say that a restaurant I’ve dined at made this list: Boomerang Grill in downtown Anaheim!  I am happy to report that my favorite sushi place, Fish in a Bottle, would have made an A grade if our county adopted the letter system.
